Fix Your Eyes on His Unseen
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
My daughter has had major surgeries since she was six. She’s my hero. The surgeries have been successful but sometimes there are setbacks. She has pain, or an unusual symptom, and we do not know its source because we cannot see what is going on inside.
As a survivor, I get this.
The “What ifs?” plant themselves and, if we allow, their roots can dig deep.
We seek to find the unseen. X-rays, MRI’s, mammograms; they give us a glimpse but they never tell the full story. Often the answers raise more questions about our physical condition; Why? Where? How long? Will it happen again? What we observe with our eyes can fuel fear because the unknown is just that – unknown.
What we see in our bodies is temporary because everything this side of heaven is.
But there are other things we cannot see that we need to search out. They are the hopes and promises of Jesus Christ. Who can see a hope and who can see a promise?
As I try to encourage her, I am talking to myself, too. I ask us both, “Are we going to fix our eyes on what we can, or cannot, see in our bodies? Or, will we fix our eyes on the unseen hopes and promises of our future in Christ? Even though you cannot see a hope, or a promise, it is still there.
Believing Fear of what we do not see, is opposite of Trusting what we do not see.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
God’s unseen sets Him apart and He tells us that we can have confidence in what we cannot see. He is working it out for our good and for His glory (in our bodies and in our future).
When we become sealed with the acceptance of Christ’s salvation, He becomes the unseen inside and He supersedes all else. This is where our assurance comes from. Everything begins and ends with Him.
This is how we know that we remain in Him: and He in us.
He has given assurance to us from His Spirit.
1 John 4:13 (HCSB)
All of us are facing some invisible circumstance in one way or another. No matter your condition, you can confidently fix your eyes on Jesus, knowing that your eternal life is guaranteed with Him and that His promises are being fulfilled in you.
Jesus, Fasten my eyes to You. I pray that you will give our doctors wisdom to find the unseen that ails us physically. I pray that you will help us to seek Your unseen so we can live in the confidence of Your promises. Bind the enemy of fear and trade it for trust. Fill us with Your Spirit so we can live in the assurance of Your presence and Word. I thank You that our eternal life is guaranteed in Your salvation.
Praying you Live Like You Know,
