Fight the Good Fight in Cancer, and Take Hold!
Fight the good fight, for the faith;
take hold of eternal life
that you were called to
and have made a good confession about
in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Timothy 6:12 (HCSB)
The definition of war is “a state of armed conflict”. We have all heard the phrase, “Fight Cancer” and its reference is usually to the battle for physical life.
Although our struggle for wellness is imperative, there is much more at stake. There is a battle of the soul. I have heard Priscilla Shirer describe it like this: “Our physical circumstances are proof of our spiritual realities.”
As Believers, we have been sealed in our salvation but we continue a fight IN our soul because we are fighting for more faith, more trust, more Jesus! Through my cancer experience, I had to ask myself, “Do you believe all that you have said about Jesus?” My answer ultimately came to, “Yes!” The knowledge of this position alone, has been worth much suffering.
God calls our fight a “good fight”. In the original translation, God says our fight is a “beautiful fight” because it is a fight of faithfulness. We are exercising our faith in believing WHO HE IS and WHAT HE SAYS. Jesus then goes to cheer me forward and tells me to “take hold” of the heavenly promise that I have been given. He wants me to stake my claim in the high honor that waits for me and He wants me to live out the faith I have proclaimed under His watchful eye.
Cancer is wicked and the enemy is using it to steal souls that are not yet saved, and weaken the ones that are. He wants to render us ineffective by causing us to doubt God’s goodness and love.
Spiritual lives are at stake and I am going to war.
I am going to fight for those who need God’s cheering IN their soul, and I am going to fight for those that are in a battle FOR their souls.
I am arming myself with the power of God’s Word and I will see myself, as God sees me; righteous! I will protect myself with faith and I will live in the knowledge of my salvation. And I will always be readied to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Will you join forces with me? Let’s put our strengths, in God, together and let’s fight the battle together.
Lord, I pray for those that are fighting the beautiful fight of faith. I ask that You would arm us with Your power. Help us to live out all that we have proclaimed of You in the past. Build us up in the Truth of Your purpose and help us keep an eye on the high honor, that lies ahead, in our eternal destination.
I pray you Live Like You Know… where you are going.
