Filled by God’s Fountain of Hope
~ Lee McCracken
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Wow, is life tough or what? Weariness easily settles into our bones, and some days it’s a struggle to climb out from under the covers.
I’ve had those days … weeks … months … years.
My two babies are in Heaven.
My 21-year-old daughter, who left home at 18, is out navigating the world on her terms.
My body bears the scars of breast cancer.
I should be a miserable mess. I should be bitter. But I’m not. I have learned mommies aren’t always able to kiss boo-boos “all better,” a teenager’s emotional angst and turmoil really take a toll, and breast cancer is surTHRIVEable.
Cradled in God’s grace and mercy, I am moving forward filled with happiness and hope. The essence of my life is that joy has nothing to do with circumstances, but everything to do with My Savior. In spite of my attempts to figure life out and do things my way, Love has been a faithful pursuer … and the Holy Spirit has filled me with peace.
Have you ever felt hopeless? Are you disappointed by the behavior of your children, or the betrayal of a friend? Do you despair over infertility, a hurtful husband or a crumbling marriage? Is battling an illness too much to bear?
God is sovereign and a mighty master, but He also is personal. He loves you and wants to hear from you — with cries of sorrow, prayers of agony, rants of anger, questions of self-doubt. He wants your entire being, as open and honest and raw as you can be.
The Ruler of Restoration soothes wounded hearts. He is ready to pick you up from life’s stumbles and spills, disappointments and derailings … and lead you forward.
And then, when you can fully receive God’s grace, and embrace the joy and peace that “surpasses all understanding,” you will be able to offer it to others.
May the fountain of Love fill your heart and spill into the lives around you.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
~ Romans 15:13
