Who Dreams of Being Forty-Seven?
For You are my hope, Lord God,
my confidence from my youth.
Psalm 71:5 (HCSB)
Who, as a little girl dreams of being forty-seven?
Which child thinks through what appears to be the grandest years of purpose and possibility, past the teenagers and college students, toward the stillness of days spent alone? This is the period of children passing through. They stay long enough for food, sleep, and the occasional unspoken, “You must stay, so my heart can hold on to you a little longer.”
What little girl plays “mid-life mama” and dreams about the house being empty and feeling a little lost because everyone is moving on with their own dreams?
I ask, “What now, Lord?”
And in the asking I feel ashamed; ashamed that I am asking for more blessings than I’ve already been given and that having healthy, beautiful, children grow into their own is not enough. How can a mama dare ask for more?
Jesus says, “Remember Me from the days of your youth.”
I look back over the years and I see it has always been God’s pleasure to satisfy the needs of my heart and, just as it was His desire to fulfill the hopes of my past, it is his desire to carry out the hope of my future.
God never stops giving and His faithfulness, in my past, proves hope worthy of my future. HE is the dream. HE is the more.
His plans are to give me a future with hope.
I should hope for what I cannot see.
God will not leave me until He has accomplished His purpose.
With unfailing love Jesus has guided me from one season to the next and He promises to do no less in my future. With confidence, and a history steeped with hope answered, I can dream about the years to come and eagerly anticipate the saturation of hope found.
Look back over your past and remember the times God has been faithful to fulfill your hopes and dreams.
What about the dreams He filled, that you did not even know you had?
Does His faithfulness, in your past, give you confidence of His faithfulness for your future?
Confidently go to Jesus, and ask Him to fulfill your dream in Him and His dream in you.
Lord, You have blessed me beyond measure and your love is never-ending. Help me to remember Your absolute faithfulness, in every moment of my life, so I will have God-confidence for my future. Thank you for Your wonderful deeds that fill my past and seal my future. My hope is in You alone and I commit my days, and my dreams to Your guidance.
