One Woman at a Time
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams of water, springs, and deep water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills; A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; A land wherein you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig brass.
Deuteronomy 8:7-9 (HCSB)
The Israelites are coming out of their wandering in the wilderness and Moses is telling them about all that waits ahead. For forty years they have been sustained by manna-dew; bread rained from heaven and now they will go where there is an overflow of God’s bounty.
They are entering the Promised Land; the one that is the sum of God’s best.
We are like those Israelites who are entering that land.
Like that manna that came from the abode of God, Jesus, the Bread of Life, is sustaining us in our wilderness. He is the fulfillment of promise given and hope instilled. He is always encouraging us to look ahead to the land where there is no lack. Our tomorrows are grounded in grace and mercy; gifts we cannot earn and do not deserve.
Behind us lie the memorials of His oath; remembrances of faithfulness supplied to those in need; the ones who have no power to save themselves. These testimonials are our confidence for today, our assurance for tomorrow and, one day, they will culminate in our guarantee of glory revealed.
Beautiful one, you are heading to the Promised Land; a good place where there are no needs. Through the manna of God’s Word, and Jesus in you, you are sustained in the guarantee of what’s to come; a land of God’s best and an overflow where you will lack for nothing.
How does salvation seal your future with Jesus?
What does God’s Word say about your eternal life?
Lord, give us a heart that looks toward heaven with the anticipation of receiving Your bounty. Sustain us in the Word that gives us the hope of our days ahead and fill us with Jesus, the promise of our future. Amen.
