Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139:7 (NIV
Do you go through your day aware of being in God’s midst – always at the center of God and His love? There is no place you can go where you are not at the core of His heart.
We get caught up in the dires of the day; the lists, the needs, and the wants. We often think about God; His kindness and His grace and on judgment and salvation. We remember Him in our past and we strive toward His future but do we consider ourselves to be actually existing with Him; that every breath and movement is grounded in the state of His being.
And how do we realize the reality of His presence? We love Him.
With every step and in every task we willfully operate out of our affection for Him. We offer our lives and our duties as living sacrifices to the One who holds our right hand and walks with us.
When we care for our family, work at our jobs, serve in our community we should have the awareness of being in the state of God’s existence. He is the One who has always been, and is, and is to come. When we are conscious of His presence our pride is snuffed and we walk humbly with our God through the attitude of serving.
The Savior’s life, freely given, demands an unending realization and alertness toward Him.
This task isn’t easy and it takes diligence and discipline to train the heart to be fixed on the gird of Christ.
I set reminders in my car, at my kitchen window, on my computer, to the back of my cell phone and at my night stand. These stickers are small reminders to my soul that I am never alone. I mark His presence for my family, too.
And when my mind wanders from the awareness of Emmanuel, God with me, I bow my head and I whisper, “You are here.” I ask for forgiveness and beseech strength for an ability to focus on Him. And then, then I move forward with confidence that God is faithful to equip that what He desires most …my heart.
Do you find yourself thinking more about God than about being with God?
How can you remind yourself that God is always with you?
How does the awareness of living in God’s presence change your attitude of the day?
Jesus, I acknowledge that you are always with me and that there is no place I can go that you do not occupy. Help me to be aware of Your presence so that I can love you at all times. When my mind wanders, help me bring my thoughts back to You and move forward in the confidence of Your mercy, grace, and equipping.
