~ One Woman at a Time ~
Do you treat yourself like God treats you? Are you kind to you?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (HCSB)
Why is it so easy to be nice to others and yet so hard to be pleasant with ourselves? There are days I find it difficult to extend the kindness God freely gives, and actively offers, to myself in the day-to-day thoughts about me.
I think back to previous words spoken, or actions taken, and my mind squints its eye and says, “You wretch”. As crazy as it sounds, I can even become suspicious of my own actions when intentions are good. I think, “What were your motives? Was your heart pure?” These aren’t helpful thoughts of evaluation, they are thoughts that second guess and undermine God’s grace and work in my life.
Why is it I can give others’ hearts the benefit of doubt and not give it to my own; one that really does want to please God and serve those He loves? I am far from perfect, but I am faithful. When I miss wide the mark, it is not because I intentionally tried. And just as God wants me to be tender-hearted and forgiving toward others, He wants me to be tender-hearted and forgiving toward me.
I am learning and I am growing toward self. And isn’t that the point? To become more like Jesus; accepting and living in the mercy of the One who showed the ultimate extension of kindness to everyone, including me?
The love He freely offers is mine, too.
Are you a woman who easily excludes herself from the kindness Jesus willingly offers for others? Do you beat yourself down, compare, and condemn with thoughts in your mind and suspicions in your heart?
Beautiful Sparrow, set yourself free. Extend the grace of God toward you and be kind and forgiving just as God has intended for you to be.
He wants you to be generous with self and walk in the same grace that releases others who believe.
Can you be your own friend? Can you actually like you and fill yourself with God-generosity and God-love? Can you extend the grace of God to your own soul today? Can you be kind and forgiving of you?
Whatever you are struggling with, Jesus knows. Wherever you are walking, He is with you. And in that struggle, or in that place, kindness and generosity are waiting to cover you.
Jesus, give me the ability to be my own friend. Help me to live in generosity toward me because of the great kindness You have extended. Help me to walk in grace and mercy, toward myself, in my own heart and my own mind.
Are you battling with yourself in your own heart and mind today?
If you had a friend, who was saying these things about herself, what Truth would you give her?
Can you give this Truth to you?
