A man’s heart plans his way,
but the Lord determines his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 (HCSB)
Beautiful Sparrow, what are your plans today? If you are like me, your schedule is long and your commitments are high. I strategize my days far in advance, coordinating with great thought and care. The needs of a large family and a heart to do for others have trained me to manage well.
I designate my time to provide for those around me, work at my craft, and prepare for the future as best I can. Jesus tells me to be wise and consider the day but He tells me ultimately, His desire will be done.
I am so grateful that the fulfillment of God’s plan is not dependent on my limited view and lack of wisdom. I am thankful that Jesus always knows what’s best and that He directs my whole life toward Him and the fulfillment of His glory. I love that I can rest, with blessed assurance that He is intricately working out what is needed; orchestrating the details, events, and relationships according to His design.
All that I do in this day will be purposed in His will. I am meant to be grateful, worshipful, and I am meant to give away the hope and promises of the Savior; the One gifted to me.
I am learning to hold my plans loosely with anticipation and excitement of God-directed steps. Today I will be with my children and their friends. I will have an opportunity to connect with others at the market and on public transportation. I will see coaches and football moms and in all of these, I am asking Jesus to coordinate my steps. I cannot control who I will meet, but God can.
The Creator, in His divine power makes divine appointments and I am making the request, “Jesus, show me the sparrow.”
It will be no accident that I come face-to-face with women who need a Word of encouragement today. Will you join me? Will you ask Jesus to show you the sparrow, too? Will you put down the phone, set aside the distractions of your mind, and look into the eyes of the woman to whom your steps have been directed?
Jesus, I pray that in all I have planned for today, that You will show me the sparrow. Thank You that Your will is not left to my minute understanding and wisdom. Help me to hold my day loosely so that I fulfill the goal of Your glory.
