Psalm 20:4 (HCSB)
I am thinking of you Mid-life Mama; the one who has spent her whole life raising children to watch them carve the paths that have been chiseled by prayers on hands and knees. You, who are feeling lost, lonely, afraid and without purpose and like the best is behind you and what is ahead is nothing more than
I want to tell you something. I want to tell you God is not finished with your purpose. No, not yet – not by a long shot.
You are still that determined woman who knows how to love beyond measure and care for others in the midnight oil. You are wise from your experiences with life and love and loss and disappointment and victory. You have experienced God; His provisions, stretching, calling, and grace and hope and mercy. And this, this is what qualifies you for what is next.
You are a step ahead and wiser for the seasons that have come before. And now? Now you have been given the gift of time. You have been given an opportunity to do more for the King you love and the God you adore. Yes, your canvas is blank; a beautiful, clean, piece of art waiting to be painted by the compassion of a Savior who is not finished with allowing you to be part of His story.
Jesus is calling you, Beautiful Sparrow and the promise of God-purpose? It still stands. The promise of completing the good work He has started? It stands, too. Your life circumstances may have shifted but your Redeemer and the goal of glory have not.
He wants to give you the spiritual desires of your heart. He wants to fulfill your whole purpose by satisfying the longings you have for those who don’t know Him and He wants you to continue strong and committed just as you’ve done before.
There is work to be done.
And you are the woman to do it.
What are the spiritual desires of your heart that cause you to gasp with a breath of ache? Is it for the single mother, the struggling teen, or the elderly who is alone? Is it a desire for women that are low in life and basic need? Is it the young-thirty-something who is running in circles trying to hide behind a mask of perfection while hanging by a thread? Is it the nations with their poverty and oppression and lack of hope because they do not know Jesus came for their souls? Wherever God has inclined your heart to hurt, you are needed.
Do not undermine His cause with thoughts of uselessness, inadequacy, or unimportance. Do not let the lie of, “the best is in the past” rule over your heart and mind. Instead, claim the promise that He will fulfill your whole purpose and give you the desires of your heart.
Jesus, I ask that You would complete Your promise to fulfill my whole purpose through giving me the spiritual desires of my heart. Show me where You have equipped me to serve and let me see this season of my life as an opportunity to bring Your love to a world that is in need. I give You all the praise and honor and glory. Amen.
What needs break your heart for Jesus and how have you been equipped to serve those in need?
Is there an organization, a gathering, or cause that God is calling you to explore?
