~Monday’s Mid-life Mama~
I adore birds. Outside my window you can find them coming and going from the feeder I have strategically placed at my window. They gather to eat from the provisions of God and they give me hope.
I call my friend, Hilda, Spiritual-mama. She is feisty and energized by God’s strength. This beautiful, southern, seventy-something woman takes me under her wing and with a twinkle in her eyes she asks about my life and what God is doing there. With joy and excitement her eyes light up as she shares what God is teaching her, too. She tells me God-stories.
Years ago, Spiritual-mama was in a storm of struggle as life pressed in on all sides. She knew God was with her but she needed an extra measure of reassurance and she asked Jesus for a sign of His presence. It was then, that a little red bird flew in front of her car. She knew that little bird was the Father’s reply – reassuring His love and encouraging her of His perfect knowledge and sovereign hand.
Since hearing Hilda’s story God has been sending me little red birds, too. They come when my heart is full, content and satisfied as well as when it is desperate, despaired and afraid. Their flight, to where I am, is always in perfect timing. Birds remind us of God’s presence and care:
They do not sow or reap and yet they’re fed – we are worth much more.
They dwell in the shelter of the Most High; under the eaves of His house – in the shadow of the Almighty.
They hide behind the rock where they are protected from the storms.
They make their homes in the branches that stretch out from the vine.
They represent the sacrifice offering of Jesus Christ.
And. They. Sing!
When my little red bird crosses my path, I know God sees me. I breathe in relief, and worry is exhaled, as my soul finds rest in the reassurance of the Lord’s presence and keen awareness of my life. Jesus is always alert to the details of our days and He wants us to receive the rest that is in His presence.
What is your “little red bird”? Do you find it in the majesty of creation or the consistent power of His Word? Do you see it in a person or is it a theme that God has echoed throughout your life? Would you share it with us in a comment, above? Whatever it is, God has provided so you can receive rest in the security of His presence.
Jesus, thank You for Your presence and sovereign hand over my life. There is nothing that is not under Your watchful eye and care. Help me to be aware of Your presence so I can receive Your rest. It’s in the power of Your Name I pray. Amen.
I pray you Live Like You Know …where you are going.
