God Wants to Flood the Dry Places of Your Life
The journey of life can leave us feeling void of life; like a mud crack that comes from the constant strain of season and struggle. We can easily shrink under the repetition of flood and drought and its pull is able to leave us thin and frail.
I’ve been in the wilderness of cancer, divorce, financial need, single mothering, depression and a sick child. The “messy” of this world has weighed me down as it has tugged against my soul. I’ve experienced life when the sediment of despair has settled in my bones and left me weary-dry.
A woman’s life-lungs breathe in and out the push-pull of longing and hope; a rhythmic desire for herself and those she loves. She’s been made to ache for those around her and she often tries to give out of dry and barren places. She is drawn in directions that cause her to be stretched thin.
God tells us He brings relief in those cracks and He channels life water toward us with His presence. He says it is in the weary-dry that He floods our need with Living Water. His longing is for us to be filled.
In the contraction of hope against pain, God hears our cry. Through His forever-promise He brings relief to our dry bones. In our exhaust He falls from heaven and covers us with His presence; saturating our aching joints with life from Spirit deep within.
It’s in the empty places He pours His salvation.
It’s in the loneliness He does not abandon.
It’s in the desert He wells up springs from dry ground.
It’s in our weakness He strengthens our souls.
It’s in the need the Giver saturates our desires.
It is in the pits and trenches He surges abundant grace and mercy.
It is in the weariness He brings refreshment from heaven.
He says, “Fear not! I am with you and I uphold you with my right hand. I have come to give you life and I give in abundance. I provide purpose in your trials and extend the hope of eternal life in your hardship it’s in this I Make. My. Glory. Known!”
I do not know what circumstances your life is being threshed against or what exhaust you are feeling but I do know The One who wants to fill your dry places and saturate you with His strength, love and life-giving water.
Will you pray this prayer and seek comfort from God’s Living Word?
Lord, I am poor and needy and I thirst for Living Water. I cry out to You in the dry places of my life, knowing that You hear me. Cover me with Your presence. Open Your river in my emptiness and bring abundant refreshment to my weary soul. It is in the Name of Jesus I seek and pray.
